MAIDEN VOYAGE

A ship on its maiden voyage
Set to sail for a predestined fate
No more holding back on recluse bay
I’m swimming out to meet the waiting ship
Restraining anchors pulled in
Cut from the shackles of flickering doubts
As I take the helming wheel
To captain my resolved soul
A heart set aglow with passion
Refusing to linger in limbo
With overwhelming tides crashing all around
Slowly I drift away from familiar shores
Into menacing uncharted territories
And into a vista of an unbeknownst future
Into deep and uncoursed waters I head
Unsure of what really lies in wait
As sharks and orcas lurk below
Steadily I lose sight of familiar shores
Seasick with nauseous butterflies
But I stay buoyed on the dark waters
With nothing but an invisible compass
Guiding from deep down within
“Explore beyond what your eyes see
Even if you know not what comes next”
A still small voice urges from the crow’s nest
“Brace for the storms.
The ones without are not as strong as the ones within.
Be still and look at the reflection on the water… you’re the storm.”
The waves continue to smash hard
Bashed on all sides by the tides of change
And rocked by the winds of uncertainty
I cast overboard into the tempest every liability
Weighing down my boundless abilities
On this maiden voyage
Of self-discovery and strive for mastery
No backing out or down now
Too late to abandon ship
I know not what lies beyond the hazy fog
But what lies behind is forgone and forgotten
Until I see the lime sunrays rise from the east
With every dark cave of the soul crossed
One more reason to banish fear I unearth
Come hell, come high waters
In the roaring torrents of black waters
Riding gleeful waves one moment
Hit with tides of despair and grief the next
The rippled rhythm of life goes
But still, I ride
On this maiden voyage
Like a phoenix rising slowly from the ashes
Of burnt flames and scorched desires
Scraps of rusted passions
Of waned and faded dreams
They wash by from the depth of the sea
Forsaken lofty ambitions
Banished fragments of deserted hopes
Bound in barbed ropes now unlatched
Untended vows and broken promises
Ascending up from the abyss of the oceans
From where even leviathans dread
To dampen my jolly spirit
Again, I rise
On this maiden voyage
I can almost taste it
The gentle breeze now reeks of new lands
Fresh and lush opportunities lie at yonder
A new me emerges – refreshed and stronger
Like a shoot breaking through concrete
Face set as an unflinching voyager
Looking sternly on the protracted course
Till the winds are out of my sail
Until my gyrating rudders fail
I will follow the sure and ancient trail
To where Earth and the horizons meet
Where the sun tucks itself to sleep
Till I dock at the port of destiny
On this maiden voyage
